The National Alliance for Eating Disorders is a non-profit organization founded in October 2000, dedicated to providing programs and activities focused on outreach, education, early intervention, and advocacy for eating disorders. The Alliance has been proactive in raising awareness, eliminating secrecy and stigma, promoting access to care, and supporting individuals susceptible to, currently struggling with, and recovered from eating disorders. They serve as a valuable resource by connecting individuals with assistance in their recovery journey.
The Alliance offers a range of services, including educational presentations for schools, healthcare providers, hospitals, treatment centers, and community agencies. They provide free clinician-led weekly support groups for individuals dealing with eating disorders and their loved ones. Moreover, they offer support and referrals through their free helpline and comprehensive referral website, www.findEDhelp.com. Additionally, they advocate for eating disorders and mental health legislation.
In August 2017, The Alliance expanded its services by opening Psychological Services. This initiative offers direct, low-cost, life-saving treatment to underinsured and uninsured adults in the community. Since its establishment, The Alliance has conducted educational presentations on eating disorders, positive body image, and self-esteem to a vast number of individuals nationwide. Their continuous dedication reflects a strong commitment to making a positive impact on the community.
